Electrical Safety Preparation
Acquire non-contact voltage tester
Purchase insulated screwdrivers
Obtain wire strippers and needle-nose pliers
Get electrical tape
Acquire circuit finder
Ensure you have rubber-soled shoes
Locate your home’s circuit breaker panel
Map and label all circuits if not already done
Create a circuit directory next to panel
Light Switch Maintenance
Identify all switch types in your home
Check for warm, discolored, or damaged switches
Listen for buzzing or crackling sounds
Test all switches for proper operation
Note any flickering lights when switches are used
Identify switches for potential upgrades (dimmers, timers, etc.)
Check switch plates for cracks or looseness
Ensure all switch boxes are properly covered
Outlet Maintenance
Inspect all outlets for damage or discoloration
Test for loose outlets (should not move when plugged into)

Test all GFCI/RCD outlets monthly using test button
Verify childproofing on necessary outlets

Check pull chains or switches on fixtures
