Plumbing Tool Preparation
Acquire adjustable spanner
Purchase pipe wrench
Obtain plungers (cup style for sinks, flange style for toilets)
Get plumber’s tape (PTFE tape)
Acquire basin wrench for hard-to-reach areas
Purchase drain snake or auger
Prepare bucket and towels for water containment
Get rubber gloves for sanitary protection
Tap Maintenance
Identify all tap types in your home
Check for drips or leaks at each tap
Locate shut-off valves for each fixture
Test shut-off valves to ensure they work
Check for mineral buildup on aerators
Inspect tap handles for looseness
Look for corrosion around tap bases
Verify adequate water pressure at each tap
Toilet Maintenance
Check for leaks around base
Listen for running water between flushes
Test flush mechanism for proper operation
Inspect water level in cistern
Check fill valve operation
Verify flush valve/flapper seals properly
Ensure toilet is securely fastened to floor
Check supply line for leaks or corrosion
Drain Maintenance
Install drain strainers in all sinks and showers
Run hot water through drains weekly
Check for slow drainage in all fixtures
Inspect visible P-traps for leaks
Clean pop-up stoppers in bathroom sinks
Remove hair from shower drains
Consider monthly use of biological drain cleaner
Know location of main drain cleanout
